![]() ![]() Apparently Louisiana law didn't.ĭoes anyone else get tired of all the fishing shows on TV shilling high-end fishing products? Reels costing more than a mortgage payment? Boats more expensive than the house you're living in? Doesn't anybody fish with cheap stuff anymore? Tackle the working stiff can afford?Īnd don't even get me started about fishing in exotic locations. Only about 15 percent of the catch is actually shrimp. Studies by NOAA show that for a given haul without a Bycatch Reduction Device (BRD), more than 50 percent of the catch is wasted fin fish. Only one boat that I’ve been able to determine emptied its nets into a tank of water, allowing more finfish to be released alive. Which leads to another pet peeve, sushi in general.ĭid anyone else get upset when shrimpers on the former TV show Ragin’ Cajun (Discovery Channel) wantonly kill thousands of juvenile redfish, sea trout, snapper, pinfish, and myriad other species of finfish and crabs in their quest to make a buck off of Gulf shrimp? For a lousy hundred bucks worth of shrimp they kill a thousand dollars worth of food and sport fish, if you want to measure it in purely dollars and cents. There are plenty of other non-endangered fish in the sea with a much better oked and uncooked. I get so angry, especially because it is unnecessary. And for what? So a Japanese diner with more money than he knows what to do with can eat some raw fish and rice? And now more and more American restaurants are offering bluefin tuna. ![]() For the sake of a few dollars (actually a lot of dollars) they document the antics of a tuna fleet made up of a motley collection of commercial fishermen trying to catch these giants on rod and reel, and in the process earning thousand of dollars per fish. Sorry.ĭoes anyone else get ticked off at the antics of the fishermen on National Geographic's Wicked Tuna as they slaughter endangered bluefin tuna. Why go back thousands, maybe millions of years to a time before toilets and toothbrushes? Not for me. The sound itself seems to conjure eternity, and the words do, too.Does anyone else believe uncooked fish should be put on a hook.not a plate? One of the benchmarks of civilization was the discovery of fire, which led to cooking, and ultimately our dining habits today. Pitchfork said, "Young lets his guitar summon a vast distance-detuning the lowest string and letting it reverberate through the central riff, fingerpicking the harmonics high up the fretboard during the verses. AllMusic's Matthew Greenwald strongly praised the song, stating that the song epitomized the album and "the power of nature and music, as well as a feeling of celebrating lifetime love are the focal points here, and Young captures it all in his typically literate, artless style." Greenwald praised the melody as "positively gorgeous, and it's one that could have easily framed a heavier song." "Classic Rock Review" called it an "absolute masterpiece of a title song" that "celebrates longevity in relationships and love affairs with a flawless melody backed by a perfect music arrangement." They went on to say that "from the upfront acoustic riffing to the picked steel guitar, subtleties of ethereal sounds, soft brush strokes on the drums, and beautiful background vocals, this song captures the essence of beauty and romance as well any song ever." Rolling Stone ranked "Harvest Moon" in 2014 as the 37th-best Neil Young song of all time. The song is composed in the key of D Major, with Young's vocal range spanning from D 3 to F# 4. Linda Ronstadt provides the backing vocals. It is a tribute to his wife Pegi Young, and the two are dancing in a bar in the music video. The song uses a moon motif, which Young has mentioned as being very important to him and having quasi-religious undertones. "Harvest Moon" is a song written by Neil Young, and was released as the first single from his 1992 album Harvest Moon. ![]()
